THE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GRANTS

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

The foundation awards grants to primarily U.S. 501(c) (3) organizations that are based in San Diego County. We focus on a wide spectrum of causes, including services supporting the military community, education, animals, and foster youth – to name just a few!

Ineligible Requests
The Foundation will not consider grant requests for the following types of activities or entities:

• Organizations that discriminate in either policy or practice against people because of their age, race, national origin, ethnicity, creed, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
• Lobbying or Political Election campaigns
• Individual requests for personal loans
• For-Profit business related financial needs
• Building or capital campaigns

Due to the number of applications received each year, unfortunately, we must decline some requests. This is not a reflection on the merit of the organization.

How does the Foundation award grants?

The Board of Directors of the Judith Campbell Educational & Community Foundation values establishing relationships with selected grant recipients. We personally visit with potential grant recipients because want to meet you personally and understand how you do the good work that you do. This approach enables us to ensure that our grants are awarded to organizations where we feel that we can make a significant impact.

What is the timeline to apply for a Community Grant?

Community grant applications are reviewed July 1 through September 30 each year. Community grants are generally awarded in the fall of each year. Community grant applications received outside of this timeframe are held until the next review period.
